Jijamata Fruit Processing Cluster Sindhudurg is initiated under the SFURTI (Scheme of fund for regeneration of traditional Industries), KVIC, Govt 0f India scheme for cluster coverage under D+ zone as Regular cluster.

Implementing agency Sindhudurg, Zilla Krishi Prathishtan (SZKP) Sindhudurg has taken the initiative to promote Jijamata Fruit Processing Cluster with the participation of micro entrepreneurs from Sindhudurg under Durgasindhu Producer Company..

The cluster comprises of 523 artisians, under 27 Self Help groups, and produces products from the traditional fruits available in the area, sourcing them directly from the farms/ farmers. The production is a collaborative effort and begins with the plucking and initial preparation in the farms/ homes of the farmers and then the final product is produced and packaged in a Central Facilitation Unit (CFC).

Production Process

Products are prepared from locally available fruits by artisians in their own farm or market, nearby forest area. Fruits are plucked and transported to their workplace / home. After the initial preparation is done by the artisians at their home/ workplace the fruits are then transported to the CFC (Central Facilitation Centre) where the final processing, quality control and packing takes place.Normally equipment and practices are traditional i. e. house hold utensils, gas and manual labour. The final processing is completed with more sophisticated machinery in a highly professional and sanitized environment. Due to fruit testing lab, hi-tech processing platform, skill up gradation interventions the quality output will be there in the form of hygienic and quality products, which will give national and international level exposure to the Kokan Meva products.
